History
Jean Vandewalle, a Chemical Engineer founded BIC Systems NV (“BIC”) in Belgium in 1972. The initial systems were Moving Grate Incinerators for municipal waste and Rotary Kiln Systems for silver recovery.
In order to solve the inherent problems encountered in silver recovery (low evaporation temperature and thus the need for a precise temperature control as well as the requirement to prevent slagging of silver at the ash outlet of the kiln),several experimental types of rotary kiln incineration plant were tested, which resulted eventually in the incontestable choice for a specific rotary kiln (counter current) and a specific wet gas scrubbing system. With the various industrial development and more stringent environmental regulations in Europe, the need for thermal solutions for hazardous waste and medical waste grew. The business eventually expanded to cover these areas,by using the previously obtained experience.
As a consequence,BIC has become the world leader in promoting the counter current rotary kiln, using a wet flue gas scrubbing system, with no drain to the sewer.
Just as well, BIC also started a waste management business in Mouscron, Belgium, to handle hazardous and medical waste disposal. The company operated a 30 TPD incinerator for about 10 years mainly as a pilot plant for getting operational experience, before exiting the waste management business in 2006. Instead, BIC decided to focus on the design and engineering of incineration systems which are environmentally-friendly, emission-compliant and cost-effective to our customers.
Demand for such environmentally compliant systems eventually grew worldwide and BIC expanded to Africa and Asia. In 1999, BIC won the first contract to supply an incineration plant in Singapore. From that time, BIC has set up a number of incineration systems in Singapore, with our customers being those in the Hazardous Waste, Medical Waste, Industrial, Pharmaceutical businesses.
BIC Systems Asia Pacific Pte Ltd was then set up as the Regional Production,Marketing and Customer Service Centre for BIC’s customers in the Asia Pacific and Middle Eastern regions. |
